Linux can process memory errors in user space memory by signaling affected processes. However we have no recovery path for errors encountered during kernel code execution.
Full memory mirroring is good approach for system RAS, but halves memory capacity available to the OS. Intel Xeon E7 v3 based systems support Address range mirroring,
in other words, partial memory mirroring. We Fujitsu have accomplished a partial memory mirroring (kernel memory) by using Address range mirroring. We discussed further work (user memory) of this feature at Storage Filesystem & Memory Management Summit 2016. In this session, we'd like to illustrate how we accomplished the partial memory mirroring, what we discussed at the Summit and future work.
